MUSEUM NOTES: JANUARY 9,  2019

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The River Valley Pioneer Museum wishes you a Happy New Year. We start this new year with a new director, Wendy Wright, the previous Administrative Assistant. Previous director, Lisa Hanbury, and her husband have moved back to their hometown of Dalhart. Lisa has already landed a position at the XIT Museum and we know she will do great things there!

SAYING GOODBYE IS SUCH SWEET SORROW

Last week the Smithsonian Museum on Main Street exhibit, Hometown Teams, was picked up to head back home to Washington, D.C. It was the most successful exhibit the museum has held since I’ve been here. The Brown Bag Luncheon discussions by Denny McLanahan, Alan Hale, and Allison Ford were very well received, so much so that I plan to incorporate Brown Bag Luncheons as part of our future education programs.

I want to personally thank Calista Darragh, Maggie Hanes, and Lilly Bradford for volunteering to assemble and disassemble the exhibit. I could not have done it without you. I also want to extend my appreciation to the Board Members for their assistance with the grand opening and the luncheons. Each and every one of you helped make this exhibit a success!

CANADIAN RIVER ART ACADEMY EXHIBIT
The museum is proud to announce that we will host the Canadian River Art Academy. Art work from 30 students and a mural by the 6th Grade will be shown in our gallery. Opening day is January 15th and a reception will be held that evening, 5pm-7:30pm. Be sure to make plans to attend. The art work will be displayed until February 28th.

WINTER BUSINESS HOURS
The museum is operating on its Winter Business Hours. We are open Tuesday through Friday, 9am-5pm, and closed for lunch, 12pm-1pm.
