Discover History At Canadian River Valley Pioneer Museum!

This has been a busy month for us at the museum; before we know it school will be starting. It took me by surprise to see the Wildcat football schedule out, that’s a true sign that summer is drawing to an end. Visitation has really picked up and it’s a good feeling knowing that travelers or even locals have an interest in what the museum has to offer.

Dallas Mayer’s art show will be in the gallery room until the end of this month.

Plans for August and September will be a photography show by Terry Henderson. A reception for Terry is in the works for August 17th, more information will be available at a later date.

At the end of September, the museum will offer a “Twilling” class, taught by Mary Jane Fast of Guymon Oklahoma. Twilling consists of a series of knots connected to form a flowing design, simple, yet elegant needle art. It was mainly used for borders and outlining designs on quilts, bedspreads and tablecloths. In my conversations with Mary Jane, this is a craft that anyone can learn. We hope to build up your interest and that you will want to join us for the fun. More information on this project will be available at a later date.

October and November will be highlighted with art work by Cara Dawn Macias. We will plan a reception for her at a later date.

That will bring us to Fall Foliage, whew! We will asking for quilts again, so be expecting a phone call from us in early October. If you have not shown with us before, we hope you will consider doing so.

Volunteers are hard to come by, and not only in this organization. We have several areas that an extra hand or two would help us tremendously. If you enjoy working with young students, we could use your help when students are scheduled for a day at the museum. Love quilts and visiting with people? We could use your help in the gallery area during Fall Foliage. If you are interested in greeting visitors on any given day, please let us know. Artist receptions, we always need help with directing visitors to the gallery room, serving refreshments and clean up. These are just a few of the areas where help would be appreciated, give us a call and we will certainly find a place for you.

The museum offers table and chair rental if you’re in need for that family gathering, or special event. Our updated gallery room provides a nice space for your business meetings; give us a call for more information at 323-6548.
