Hemphill
County men and women have contributed to every American war effort
since the county was settled. Founding fathers such as George
Washington "Cap" Arrington fought in the Civil War,
and Canadian has men and women in uniform today, in the Middle
East. The River Valley Pioneer Museum has an exhibit dedicated
to war and military veterans from Canadian and Hemphill County,
along with various artifacts that include uniforms and items retrieved
from war zones such as Nazi Germany.
The
museum is currently developing a project that will record the
oral histories of living veterans and include them, as well as
relevant artifacts, as a museum exhibit.
